Molasses Bread

A seriously dense and tasty treat. We had this back in UCSB, and we'd literally sneak loaves of the stuff out of the dining commons.


Ingredients

  • 3.5 oz molasses
     
  • 1 egg
     
  • 2/3 cup + ¼ cup buttermilk
     
  • ½ cup sugar
     
  • 1/3 cup + ½ cup whole wheat flour
     
  • 1/3 cup + ½ cup  all purpose flour
     
  • 1 tsp baking soda
     
  • 1¼ tsp salt

Instructions

  1. Grease a standard sized bread loaf tin.
     
  2. Heat oven to 350º F.
     
  3. Combine whole wheat flour, all purpose flour, baking soda, salt, and sugar in a bowl. Mix thoroughly.
     
  4. Add egg, buttermilk, and molasses. Stir until fully mixed.
     
  5. Slowly add dry ingredients into the wet and mix thoroughly.
     
  6. Bake for 50-55 min.
     
  7. Let sit for 5 minutes and then turn out onto cooling rack.
