This recipe is from Camille's grandmother's sister - so a couple generations back.
Ingredients
1 jar (7 oz) marshmallow creme
3 small bags or 1½ larger bags of chocolate chips (18 oz)
1 lb milk chocolate bars, broken up (we use Hershey's)
4½ cups sugar
1 can (12 oz) Pet evaporated milk
1 cube (½ cup) margarine or butter
2 tsp vanilla extract
½ cup nuts (optional)
Instructions
Line a 3 quart baking dish with foil.
Put sugar, milk, and butter into a large pan and heat gently until it reaches a rolling boil.
Turn down the heat or it will scorch, and boil for five minutes, stirring.
Take off te fire, and add the vanille extract.
Put in the chocolate and marshmallow creme. Blend until the chocolate is melted and no white streaks remain.
Optional: stir in the nuts and blend well.
Pour into lined baking dish, and spread out evenly.
Allow to cool for an hour, then cover.
Rest overinght to develop full flavor. Transfer to air-tight container. Keep tightly covered all the time or it will dry out quickly. If well covered, it will keep for up to six months.
