Apple pie flavored compote. Perfect for topping waffles or ice cream... that is if you can stop your self from eating it all straight out of the pan.

Ingredients

  • 4 granny smith apples

  • 1/3 cup brown sugar

  • 3 Tablespoons butter

  • 2 teaspoons lemon or lime juice

  • slightly less than 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

  • a dash of nutmeg

  • two dashes of allspice

  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

Peel apples and cut apples into bite sized chunks and toss them into a large pan.

Add the butter, brown sugar, lemon or lime juice, cinammon, nutmeg, allspice, and vanilla.

Turn on medium heat and stir until the butter is melted and all ingredients are well combined.

Reduce heat, cover, and simmer, stirring occasionally, for about 15 minutes or until apples become soft and translucent. Do not over cook or smash the apples unless apple sauce is what you're going for. Serve warm.
